He rejects Christianity and embraces logic rather consequently thesensual. He therefore falls prey to his emotions. He sees Tess as athing of beauty and idealises her, portraying in his mind andconvincing himself that she is a perfect goddess therefore he doesnot love her for who she really is.Angels character is presented as being gentle with Tess andinterested in her thoughts rather then just her looks, which is in govern contrast to Alec.
